From a shoot February 15, 2020 at Art Space and Design gallery at Southgate Mall, Edmonton (https://www.artspaceanddesign.com/edmonton). Just happened to be walking by while seeking a tripod from the local McBain Camera outlet. It’s not often you find art – let alone art worth discussing – in an urban shopping centre. After being cajoled into having a look-see, chastised mildly for having a closed mind about the whole thing, I dove in, COVID mask in place and heavy winter coat on my back.
While not a life-altering event, I’d ended up spending a good hour perusing the many pieces in mixed media with a growing smile on my face. The gallery representative, Raman, was knowledgeable, friendly, and all too happy to share her thoughts and personal connections to the pieces in the collection. After a chat about art and photography, I found myself invited to return with better gear to enjoy near exclusive access to the pieces the next day – I couldn’t resist the chance to try to render some of the many great pieces. Taylor and I spent nearly 2 hours studying the options, and this is a good sampling of my own captures. Could easily have spent a few hundred thousand on fine pieces. If only…
This is one of a pair of galleries with the same name, the other in Calgary. The works are from all over, including local and international artists. Highly accessible and often thought-provoking, a visit to this location would prove to be a fine diversion.

My thanks to Raman for hosting.
